Emeralds on the other hand were used by ancient Egyptians more than 5000 years ago. It was associated with rebirth and youth. Pharaohs were entombed in emeralds since they believe it will grant them eternal youth.

Incans were also known to have possession of emeralds. It was worn by their leaders and often offered to the gods. Around the 16th century, it has lost part of its value due to the large number of emeralds taken to Spain. It was around this time that it was also obtained by moguls in India.
